At a Loss for Words
“Have you ever been “at a loss for words?” The sentence itself carries an old style of speaking, doesn’t it? It’s a figure of speech: you can’t translate it word for word, but you understand it because its meaning has been explained to you or used in a context that you can appreciate. Perhaps you haven’t been able to find the words to use in a sensitive situation. At someone’s funeral for instance or during a heated conversation or while looking at a breathtaking sunset. It seems heightened emotions cause you to search for suitable words you can’t find. Maybe this is exactly what is supposed to happen. Silence becomes the operative word when circumstances are overwhelming. Allowing yourself to slip into quietude lets you be the perfect witness without saying a word.”
To your Happiness,
