A Goddess of her Generation
“The words have been rolling around in my head since the early morning hours and now I am ready to write. My mother died yesterday (Friday) early afternoon after being taken to hospital at 11 am due to respiratory distress. Her health had been failing – we had just been in the same hospital for an iron infusion on the Wednesday. When I visited her on Thursday, my heart broke seeing her so weak and frail. Fortunately, I was able to be with her in the last moments of her life. She was 95 years old, and though the term is not associated with her era, she was a goddess of her generation: freedom fighter for her native city of Warsaw, Poland during World War II; scholarship student at the University of London, UK, studying math, economics and languages; mother of three including twins; grandmother of five, great-grandmother of five; multilingual technical translator adding Japanese to her roster of languages in mid-career; tennis player into her eighties; formidable bridge partner; impeccable in her appearance and comportment though this did not stop her from tearing up the dance floor; and she, like all of us, let Dad be in the spotlight – “the life of the party”. Yes, he was her rock, and she was his All. She is a part of me now. And I share her with you now for she is our All.”
To your Happiness,
Kita
