Accidental Philanthropy
“No bag in hand these days – just pockets to hold Kleenex, keys, bills, and cards. Had a twenty with the debit card for this morning’s errands and pulled out the debit to handle the grocery transaction. Scooped up the two item-filled plastic bags and walked back home under a sunny though slightly brisk sky. Upon returning, transferred pocket items back to their usual place: in a bowel by the door and trusty wallet stored in handbag. No twenty in the jacket pocket; tried the jean pockets – no bill there either. Thought hard whether payment was fiat or card and concluded the following: if someone had the good fortune to find a twenty today, what a way to make their day! Even accidental philanthropy can leave a smile on your face.”
